Hello brothers and sisters. My name is Betty. I was brought up in the Catholic system as one of seven children. I wasn't very happy and got nothing out of going to church but I did want to be a good living person. I was happily married with a good job and most material things. But I wanted the Lord in my life when I realised that was what was missing to make my life complete.
One day my daughter rang me and told me she had changed her faith. She repented, was baptized by full immersion in the sea and spoke in tongues. I was shocked, totally confused and not very happy. I was in a quandary. We paid a visit to my daughter Deb in New South Wales (we were in Victoria at the time) as I wanted to check this out for myself. I went to a church meeting with Deb. I came away so impressed. Such happy people who made me feel so comfortable! The choruses they sang were so uplifting and so were the testimonies of what they have, and how they came to know the Lord - how their lives had changed. The message from the speaker came straight from scriptures in the bible. It was so different from what I knew.
When I got back to Victoria, I experienced the same thing. I went to the Revival Fellowship in Geelong. I went to a separate prayer room to pray and I received the Holy Spirit within 20 minutes and spoke in tongues. I got baptized two weeks later by full immersion. I was overwhelmed with such joy at what I experienced. My life was complete! That was on the 3rd of February 1991.
We later moved and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had the cancer removed and I was supposed to have 5 weeks of radiation but I refused the treatment and asked the Lord to please take care of me. That was 11 years ago and I am still going strong. My specialist told me to keep doing what I am doing because he was happy. I told him how I was a Christian and strongly believe in the power of prayer and faith.
Four and a half years ago I lost my beautiful son to cancer. I was so sad and found it difficult to accept. Once again the love of the Lord, the brethren, immediate family, and my friends all strengthened me.
I was in the fellowship for 14 years before my husband Theo saw the light and came along in 2004. We are one together, and still rejoicing in the Lord, Amen.
